Backing up Outlook

April 4th, 2006

Enter pfbackup. Pfbackup is a free backup utility, provided by Microsoft on their website. This utility works with MS Outlook (not express) on any system running Win ‘98 or better (Windows 2000 must be at least sp3). It works with Outlook 2000/2002/2003 to backup all of your personal folders (.pst).

To run this utility, download it from the link provided, then run the setup file which you just downloaded. After it is installed, it can be launched by clicking File and then Backup in Outlook. You can schedule backups, set a backup directory, or even get your folders backed up every time you close Outlook.

For those using Outlook Express, we’re afraid they don’t have the same utility. However, we did dig up this nice little article which explains, in full detail, how to backup everything you keep in Outlook Express. Go here for that article.

Remember, data disasters can come at anytime. You should always backup your most important data to a safe medium (secondary hard drive, flash drive, cd/dvd). It can save you a lot of time and headache down the road, believe us.
